I am glad that I have a camera on my bike as evidence if something came up. While I wasn’t hit this morning, I did get a bit of a rude driver. If I had hit a pothole, the driver could of hit me. Without a camera, I’m sure they would claim it was my fault.
The car was close than it appears on the video, but the story is that I was waiting at a light. The light changed, and I followed the car in front of me. Now there are two left hand turn lanes. If you watch the video, the other lane is free. The white truck, that was behind me at the light, pulled into the other lane, passed me, then cut me off bringing their bumper distrubing close to my bike. Again, if you look at the video, there was no traffic in the other lane. The driver of the white truck did this for no other reason than to be rude. There was no turn off just ahead that caused this driver to be in my lane.
It was just being mean hearted.
It is amazing to me how a small subset of people in cars believe that they own the road, and they believe that anybody else in their way is somehow disturbing them. I wish we would federally mandate cameras in cars. The technology is very cheap, and we’d get the real story many times. This is why I have a camera on my bike. If I ever get killed on my bike, remember to look in the metal mess of the accident. At least you can put the bad driver away for disorderly driving behavior.
Now think about it. The driver of the white truck has over a ton of metal. Cars kill approximately 50,000 people per year (roughly the same as the entire Vietnam war). Some people think we need to control guns, yet poor driving habits and rude behavior will kill more people than guns will ever kill during a year.
The morning was very foggy, and it had fogged up my camera lens. I can only make out the last two digits of the white pickup trucks license plate. Looks to me like a “55.”
Maybe it was the Lord’s will that I don’t know the exact number, or I would look it up in the DMV.
Even a close-up can’t quite get it. I need the CSI camera that would really pull out the number.
